01.04.11
Jet2 has launched its first flights from Glasgow Airport, creating a total of 150 jobs for cabin crew, ground staff and pilots. The first of the airline's new services departed to Alicante this week. It will fly to Nice, Alicante, Dalaman, Faro, Majorca, Paphos and Tenerife during the summer months, with flights to Geneva taking off on December 23.
Managing director of Jet2, Ian Doubtfire, said: ‘This is an exciting day for us. After 2 years' planning we have operated our first flight from Glasgow Airport. We have two aircraft based here and have been thrilled with the positive response to date, which has caused us to increase our capacity on our most popular sunshine routes.'
Mr Doubtfire said he estimates around 300,000 passengers will use the flights this summer and he expects the number of people employed at its base would increase next year. He said: ‘We have been spending the last 6 months recruiting staff and we have got some fantastic people. We plan to expand further in 2012.’
